The Radford Women’s Tennis team won once again on Friday, March 16 at James Madison University by a score of 4-3. The Highlanders continued to stay hot on the season as they have won five straight and 10 of their last 12.
RU’s single victories were provided by three of the four freshmen in the starting lineup. The freshman winners were Meg Napolitano (5-7, 6-3, 6-4), Hannah Crawford (7-5, 6-1) and Taylor Newman (6-2, 6-1).  Napolitano managed to rally from a set down to defeat JMU’s Ruxandra Andriescu. Senior Mia Drobnjak, freshman Gemma Valls and senior Petra Dajevic could not overcome their opponents and each dropped singles matches against JMU.
With the match tied at 3-3 and after two doubles matches, the score stood even at one win a piece. Valls and Dajevic recorded the other doubles point but the deciding match was left to freshman duo Napolitano and Crawford. They did not disappoint and fended off the Dukes for the 8-6 win and match point giving the Highs the 4-3 decision.
With the out of conference win, RU improves to 11-4 this season and the loss drops JMU to 5-3 overall. Radford is 2-2 in the Big South Conference with four conference matches still left to play not including the Big South Conference tournament. This was the Highs’ fifteenth road match of the season, and will finally open up home play against next week. Radford will host its first home game of the season on March 22 when they are set to play Roanoke College at 4 p.m.
