Women’s Tennis: Anastasia Belyaeva Captures Big South Weekly Honors

As Radford University Women’s Tennis teams season concludes it admittedly doesn’t seem as if standout Junior Anastasia Belyaeva is preparing to slow down anytime soon as she continues to shine on the tennis court.

Belyaeva was announced as the Big South Player of the Week Wednesday, April 10 making her the fourth player in the program’s history to earn the award. She is also the first Radford University Women’s Tennis player to obtain this since the 2012 season when Petra Dajevic and Mia Drobnjak earned the honors

Vs. USC Upstate

Belyaeva kicked off her streak of dominating performances during the Highlander’s controlling 7-0 sweep against The USC Upstate Spartans on April 3. She caught many eyes as she led the Highlanders from the prestigious number 1 position on the court throughout the day. She then went on to secure a couple of 6-4 set victories as her memorable day came to an end.

Vs. Gardner Webb

April 6, Belyaeva and the Highlanders would host the Gardner Webb Bulldogs in an intense competitive matchup. The ladies went on to defeat the Bulldogs with a final score of 4-3.

The Khabarovsk, Russia native kicked off her outstanding performance against the Bulldogs by recording the Highlanders first point which set the tempo. She then caught fire and went on to defeat her opponent 6-3 and 6-3 on court 1.

Belyaeva continued to display her versatility on the tennis court against the Bulldogs throughout the contest when she secured a victory in doubles action as well.

Belyaeva was unstoppable throughout the week finishing with an impressive 4-0 record.


Join the Radford University Women’s Tennis team as they wrap up the regular season and begin to prepare for the Big South Tournament kicking off on Tuesday, April 16. The tournament will take place over a span of four days and will conclude with the Big South Championship match on Friday, April 19.
