Like providing a whole wardrobe of outfits for your next job interview, the Center for Career and Talent Development at Radford University also offers a social network for college students looking at career-related opportunities: this platform is known as Handshake.
The Handshake icon can be found on your RU portal. It seems like two people shaking their hands in agreement, which is neato-burrito if you ask me since the app is all about helping you find a new business partner.
It’s very much like LinkedIn.
After filling out your information, the site matches you up with jobs, internships, and work-study opportunities that it thinks you’re most suitable for. However, that’s not the end of it.
There’s a whole ‘nother section to keep you up-to-date on upcoming events like the Graduate & Professional School Fair and the Fall Career & Internship Fair.
For instance, a recent search turned up Dr. Ron Osgood Vietnam Documentary: Just Like Me … Stories from all Sides. The event is scheduled for Oct. 4 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Bondurant Auditorium.
Speaking from experience, I heard back from the jobs I applied for via Handshake far faster than I heard from anyone else. If that’s not enough reason for you, there’s also a huge contest going on that’s super new!
The app gives you your link to share with fellow Highlanders. Automatically, for each referral, you and your friend will be entered to win a $10,000 award! It’s important to keep in mind that the referrals must be students that are currently enrolled in college.
The Handshake app also offers resume review and interview prep, job broads career development workshops, employer connection and much more.
Handshake is trusted and used by over 500 university career centers, and it’s designed to help students find new career paths so don’t be afraid to download the app and show your best-self to employers.
