Wilson I. Herrarte passes away

Freshman student, Wilson I. Herrarte, passed way Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle in Richmond, Virginia.

According to NBC 12 in Richmond, Virginia, Herrarte was in a crosswalk near VCU’s Monroe Park Campus when he was hit and killed by a car.

Richmond police officers say around 1:03 a.m. on Saturday, Herrarte was hit by a car near the intersection of South Belvidere and Cumberland streets.

They also say that a group of pedestrians were crossing the street during a red traffic signal when the car was switching lanes. The driver hit Herrarte while trying to avoid hitting the group.

In a university-wide email, Vice President of Student Affairs Mark Shanley wrote that grief counselors would be available for students to speak to if needed. They will be available through Counseling Services.
