Some people love to take a walk in the park to look at the leaves changing, some like to carve pumpkins and play games, but some people love this time of year because of the scary movies. Most of the time, you either love scary movies, or you hate them. Since Halloween is right around the corner, it is the prime time for a scary movie binge-watching party with your friends. If you are stuck on what movies you could watch, I have a few suggestions that could steer you in the right direction.

If you are the type that enjoys psychological horror, Silence of the Lambs is a classic choice. This movie is sure to make you uncomfortable, and it is a must-see serial killer flick for a horror movie buff. Another would be Split, which highlights a terrifying extreme of a person with multiple personalities. Finally, Identity is sure to shock you with the disorienting plot and fantastic twists.

If you love supernatural horror, IT is a great way to go. Both versions of the movie have something different to offer, so choose whichever seems more satisfying to your taste. Another movie would be The Exorcist. It’s an oldie, but a goodie. This movie had people crying, puking, and running out of the theater when it was first released, so it paved the way for the modern horror movie we see today. Finally, Insidious is an essential horror film, and has been widely regarded as one of the best horror films of modern day.

For the slasher-flick lovers, Halloween is perfect. It can be a little corny considering it is older, but it does not downplay the fear that someone is watching you. Hush is a terrifying movie that could fall under slasher and psychological horror. The main character lives alone and is deaf, so you can imagine the terrifying tension. Another classic slasher film is Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Be wary of gore, but this movie is sure to have you screaming out loud. Do not watch it alone.

If you are more into a gore-filled movie, all of the Saw movies are perfect for you. I cannot watch them because they are so gory, and I do not think I will ever be able to watch them. Some people really enjoy gore, though, so no judgement. Another gore-filled series would be the Final Destination movies. These movies play on real-life fears that could actually happen in rare situations. Watch out for those log trucks.

Check out the movies in each category and see what you like. You may find a new subgenre that you enjoy, or maybe you will find a brand new movie you have never seen. My biggest piece of advice would be to watch with friends and stay with friends after. There is nothing worse than being terrified on your own, so make a party out of it! Being scared with friends will give you a rush of adrenaline, but also provide comic relief when your best friend dumps the popcorn all over themselves.
