Like many other Radford community events, the annual Craft & Draft festival moves online this year as a virtual market. The event is being hosted this coming Oct. 22-25 on their website.

In the spirit of maintaining their mission in spreading support for local business, Craft & Draft will put the health and safety of the organization and the community first by hosting this year’s event online due to COVID-19.

Craft & Draft is a volunteer-run marketplace and festival fair. It hosts artisans and crafters who feature locally made jewelry, wood crafts, clothing, pottery, and other modern and indie art.

Craft & Draft is a non-profit organization and was started initially by MountainTrotter Arts in 2014.

Craft & Draft is a non-profit organization and was started initially by MountainTrotter Arts in 2014. MountainTrotter Arts is also a non-profit organization and dedicated to hosting and organizing community events and activities.

According to Lauri Murphy, the Executive Director of MoiuntainTrotter Arts, “MountainTrotter Arts wants to continue to provide outlets for artisans in a variety of ways.”

Murphy states that the organization is “adapting and discovering new ways to bring the arts to our community and to continue to support artisans and crafters.”

For the past five years, Craft & Draft has chosen a local charity or non-profit organization to donate their proceeds, including the Radford Animal Shelter, in 2019. They have donated just under $5,000 at that time.

Murphy also states that “Handcrafted artisans, small businesses, performing artists are part of our backbone – and we need to continue to support them, even if we can’t do it in person this year.”

Craft & Draft, under normal circumstances, would also host local bands to perform during the event. However, to accommodate the musicians in the virtual event, patrons will be able to browse the artists’ and musicians’ work as if it were still an in-person event.

According to Craft & Draft’s website, their goal is to “showcase the value of creative spirit.”

To highlight the “Draft” portion of Craft & Draft, the organization has collaborated with the Radford Info & Welcome Center to introduce visitors to the craft beer scene in Radford’s community, including information on local restaurants and pubs.

Community members are encouraged to use #CraftandDraft2020 to access information about the vendors, artisans, and featured musicians’ work for this year’s event and the products they will be featuring.

As far as next year’s event is concerned, Craft & Draft will return to Glencoe Mansion Museum and Gallery.
