Radford University announced Monday that “all undergraduate and graduate ceremonies for the Class of 2020 at both main campus and Radford University Carilion, as well as related events, will be held from Thursday, April 29, 2021, through Sunday, May 2, 2021,” in an email sent out by University Relations.
“In the Spring of 2021, we look forward to welcoming these Highlanders and their families back home for this long-awaited and much-deserved recognition,” the email concludes.Details of ceremony dates, times, and locations, will be posted on Radford University’s website by March 1, 2021, according to the email.
The reasoning for this change in Commencement is because Radford University estimates that 10,000 to 15,000 guests will come to the city stating, that “this difficult, but necessary, decision was made in order to place the health, safety, and well-being of our graduates, their families, and our community first and foremost. It was also made in order to ensure compliance with the capacity limitations for gatherings, including indoor venues, by the Commonwealth of Virginia.”
In the email, it states that Spring 2021 will provide a “variety of outdoor venues … not possible in the late fall due to possible cold weather and related conditions.”
“In the Spring of 2021, we look forward to welcoming these Highlanders and their families back home for this long-awaited and much-deserved recognition,” the email concludes.
