Men’s basketball has sights set on tournament

It is getting very close to tournament time in the Big South and teams are really starting to play well. The High Point Panthers won the North Region at (12-4) in conference play and (16-13) overall. won the South Region at (11-5) and are (18-12) overall.

Sophomore John Brown leads High Point in scoring at 19.6 ppg and second on the team in rebounding at 7.9 rpg. Forward Allen Cheney is playing really well averaging almost a double double right before tournament time at 15.4 ppg and 8.6 rpg. High Point has a first round bye in the conference tournament, their next game is Friday March 7 against the winner of Liberty and Winthrop.

Freshman Q.J Peterson leads VMI in scoring at 19.6 ppg. Senior D.J Covington is playing outstanding averaging just under a double double at 18.7 ppg and leads the team in rebounding at 9.3. Numbers are just under an double double every game. Senior Rodney Glasgow is the foul general for the team and is averaging 18.4 ppg and 5.7 assists a game. VMI has a first round by also, their next game is Friday March 7 against the winner of Gardner-Webb and Longwood.

Junior Javonte Green leads Radford in scoring and rebounding at 17.0 ppg and 8.2 rpg. Junior R.J Davis is second on the team in scoring at 13.0 ppg.  He also leads the team in assists a game at 3.4 apg. Sophomore Brandon Holcomb is second on the team at rebounding at 4.8 rpg. Their next game is Wednesday, March 5 against Presbyterian.

Junior Reco McCarter leads Campbell in scoring and rebounding at  12.5 ppg and 5.2 rpg. Junior Darius Leonard is second on the team in rebounding at 5.0 rpg. Their next game is Wednesday, March 5 against Charleston Southern first round of the Big South Tournament.

Senior Antwan Burris leads Liberty in scoring at 13.1 ppg. Junior Tomasz Gielo leads the team in rebounding at 6.0 rpg. Liberty’s next game is Wednesday, March 5 against Winthrop.

Senior Tristan Carey leads Longwood in scoring and rebounding at 18.5 ppg and 6.6 rpg. Sophomore Lucas Woodhouse leads the team in assists at 6.7 apg. Longwood’s next game is Wednesday, March 5 against Gardner-Webb.

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers won the South Region at (11-5) in conference play. Freshman Elijah Wilson leads Coastal Carolina in scoring at 16.4 ppg. Senior El Hadji Ndieguene leads the team in rebounding at 6.6 rpg. Coastal Carolina has a first round bye, Their next game is Friday, March 7 against the winner of Campbell and Charleston Southern.

Junior Keon Moore leads Winthrop in scoring with 13.2 ppg. Junior Larry Brown leads the team in rebounding at 4.3 rpg. Winthrop’s next game is Wednesday, March 5 against Liberty.

Sophomore Jerome Hill  leads Gardner-Webb in scoring and rebounding at 14.2 ppg and 8.0 rpg. Junior Tyler Strange leads the team in assists at 5.1 apg. Gardner-Webb’s next game is Wednesday, March 5 against Longwood.

Freshman Andrew Rowsey leads UNC Asheville in scoring at 19.9 ppg. He has been playing very well especially for a freshman all season. Senior D.J Cunningham leads the team in rebounding at 9.4 rpg . UNC Asheville has an first round bye in the Tournament and their next game is Friday, March 7 against the winner of Radford and Presbyterian.

Junior Saah Nimley leads Charleston Southern in scoring at 13.3 ppg. Junior Paul Gombwer leads the team in rebounding at 6.3 rpg.  Junior Nimley also leads the team in assists per game at 5. Their next game is Wednesday, March 5 against Campbell.

Junior Jordan Downing leads Presbyterian in scoring at 19.8 ppg. Junior William Truss leads the team in rebounding at 9.1 rpg. Presbyterian’s next game is Wednesday March 5 against Radford.

It’s march in college basketball so things are going to start getting crazy. “March Madness” is in full effect so stay tuned.
