Due to the passage of the Tropical Storm Michael, which has caused a flash flood watch, wind advisory, and flood warning, the Radford University Police Department issued an RU Alert to move cars from Lot Z effective immediately.

“Due to continued and quickly rising river levels, Lot Z is closed effective immediately. As such, all vehicles need to be moved immediately.”

“Alternate parking is available in Lot U and Lot BF. For assistance finding alternate lots, please refer to the campus map.”

Radford has been sending multiple alerts through email, text, phone calls, and even the PA system in must halls throughout the morning.

Karen Sutherland, Associate Director of Assignments and Technology, stated in an email alert that transportation would be given through the shuttle service to help students go from the Muse parking lot to Lot Z.

“In order to assist students in moving their cars out of the lot as quickly as possible, University staff is operating shuttle service to Lot Z from the Muse parking lot. It is imperative that students move their vehicles from Lot Z immediately.”

Radford University Police Department says, “A notice will be sent out when parking resumes in Lot Z. If you have any questions, please call Radford University Police Department at 540-831-5500.”

The reason that Radford is making sure that everyone moves their car immediately this morning is due to a late response in flooding which occurred in 2013 which must not be repeated.

From a Whim story, “Radford University students were shocked to wake up this morning to a devastating scene. Yesterday’s heavy rain caused the New River to rise and flood residential parking lot Z, located next to the Dedmon Center.”
