Radford University golf was represented by both the men’s and women’s teams this weekend, and both finished last place in their respective tournaments. The men’s team played in the Elon Phoenix Invitational and placed 15th,and the women’s team placed 12th in the Bill Berg Invitational. Gardner-Webb ended up capturing the win in the Elon Phoenix Invitational while Eastern Kentucky won the Bill Berg Invitational.
The men’s team was led by junior Myles Creighton, who shot a three-round total score of 214 (71-66-77). His round of 66 is his career-best round here at Radford University. His three-round total was good enough to place tied for 29th in the tournament out of 88 golfers. The next day in the final round, Creighton shot five-over par for a score of 77. Senior Nick Brediger also paced the Highlanders to finish in 71st with a total score of 225 (73-76-76).
The Highlanders also had performances from redshirt senior Conner Lewis, junior Ben Ramsey and sophomore Lui Craddock. Lewis finished tied for 77th place with a three-round score of 228 (75-75-78). Ramsey finished with a score of 231 (77-78-76) which placed him in 83rd place. Craddock had a three-round total of 238 (81-76-81).
The women’s team was led by junior Khushboo Thiagaraj, who finished in the top-5 for the first time in her career. Thiagaraj finished in a three-way tie for third place out of 66 golfers after shooting one-under par on the last day of the tournament to finish with a total score of 222 (78-73-71). With her efforts, she was named Big South Conference Co-Women’s Golfer of the Week. It was her first time winning Golfer of the Week and her second weekly award of her career.
Radford University also had strong performances from the rest of the team in the Bill Berg Invitational. Junior Meagan Board finished in 42nd after posting a total score of 238 (80-76-82). Junior Morgan Cox shot a three-round score of 247 (86-81-80), which was good enough to place her tied for 53rd place. Olivia Jay, a senior for the Highlanders, posted a three-round score of 253 (83-86-84) for a 61st place finish. Sophomore Kasidy Beckel posted a score of 255 (92-83-80) over the three rounds to finish tied for 62nd place.
The men will conclude the fall 2016 season playing in the Kiawah Classic. The tournament will be held at the Turtle Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C., Oct. 31-Nov. 1. The women play again on Oct. 22 in the Winthrop Intercollegiate at the Rock Hill Country Club, in Rock Hill S.C.
