Have you ever thought about how long it takes you to get ready in the morning? Some people take hours while others take ten minutes.

While in college, I have cut my getting-ready time down by twenty minutes. In the summer, I could take up to an hour to get ready only because I could.

We’ve had to cut out things like looking presentable and putting on matching socks, all to get to class on time since most professors only allow up to three absences.

I know most college students have changed their routine in the morning from their Summer morning routine to their college morning routine. We’ve had to cut out things like looking presentable and putting on matching socks to get to class on time since most professors only allow up to three absences.

People might say “you should just wake up earlier to give yourself more time to get ready in the morning,” but we all know as students we want all the sleep we can get. Waking up early isn’t an option when you’re staying up till 4 a.m. to get one assignment done and only getting three hours of sleep.

Some of us are easily distracted to the point where once we hear our phone, we stop whatever we’re doing to check it.

To prove my point, I decided to ask around campus to see how long students took to get ready in the morning. Just to see how and what other student’s morning routines are during the semester.

Devonte Cooper, a Radford University junior, said, “Somewhere in between eight and 10 minutes, I am always in a rush to get to class because I oversleep, so I usually throw on the first clean thing I can find, brush my teeth and out the door I go.”

Who would’ve thought that some people can get ready in eight minutes?

Faith Galloway, a Radford University transfer student said, “About 30 minutes because I take about 5 minutes brushing my teeth and washing my face, another 5 minutes getting dressed, the rest of the time I am trying to get some school stuff together, and I sit on my phone for a minute then I’m out the door.”

Speaking of sitting on our phones, some of us are easily distracted to the point where once we hear our phone, we stop whatever we’re doing to check it. If we laugh at what we see, we might even sit, laugh and share it with friends which takes away from the time we could’ve been using to get ready, but surely it was worth the share.

We don’t only have to get up and go to class on weekdays so, what about on the weekends? How long does it take us to get ready then?

Getting ready on the weekends is a different story. Some students don’t even bother to get up on the weekends, because they have nowhere to be. On the other hand, some of us have jobs and have no choice, so we have to get up and go.

On those days when we have extra time in the morning to get ready some of us may add in things like make-up, hair, showering, and even making breakfast for ourselves, which could take up to an hour.

We all wish we had more time to get ready in the morning to fulfill the basics of getting prepared, but that’s not how it works out for us students, especially on the weekdays.

We, as college students, can agree that we have become experts at getting ready in 15 minutes and getting to class on time. So, if you asked yourself, “I wonder how long I take to get ready in the morning?” Just time yourself to see how long it really takes.
