If you want to see a movie that will make you laugh the whole way through, “Grown Ups 2” is the one to watch. R-SPACE provides weekly movies in the Bonnie auditorium, and this week they picked a good laugh-out-loud one (my abs hurt from laughing so much). “Grown Ups 2” was released this past July as a sequel to 2010’s “Grown Ups”.
The comedy is a very crude, in-your-face humor that might not appeal to everyone. To an auditorium full of college kids, the movie was hilarious. To a group of adults over the age of 40, the movie might not have been as funny.
The movie doesn’t seem like a sequel, you could watch the second movie without ever seeing the first and understand everything.
The cast includes Adam Sandler who plays Lenny Feder, Kevin James as Eric Lamonsoff, Chris Rock as Kurt McKenzie and David Spade as Marcus Higgins.
The movie picks up three years later from the first movie. Lenny and his family move from Hollywood, back to their hometown in Connecticut to be closer to family and longtime friends.
In the first scene of the movie Lenny wakes up to find a deer standing beside the bed. He tries to calmly and quietly wake his wife Roxanne (Salma Hayek) who sits up and screams, causing the deer to freak out and pee all over Lenny.
The McKenzie household begins with Kurt surprising his wife Deanne (Maya Rudolph) with a necklace for their 20th anniversary… which she forgot. Meanwhile, Marcus is waiting at the train station waiting for his seventeen-year-old son, who he just learned about through a letter from an old girlfriend who he calls “hiccups-mcgee”.
After all the kids are in school, Lenny, Kurt, Eric and Marcus visit the old quarry where they used to swim as kids. Upon their arrival they find a bunch of college kids partying and frat boys who have ‘claimed’ the quarry. The frat boys force the four friends to jump off of the quarry, naked.
After the incident, the frat house gets trashed and all of the angry young men want to seek revenge. They show up at Lenny and Roxanne’s party to put up a fight, and end up running away defeated.
According to splitsider.com, as of Oct. 17, 2013 “Grown Ups 2” has reached a worldwide total of $241,780,306 with the film earning $16.3 million on opening day (including my $7.50).
After watching the movie for the second time and before writing this article, I looked up the reviews from the movie and was shocked. Rotten Tomatoes gave the movie an unfair rating of 2.6/10, and IMDb rated the movie a 5.2/10. I have to completely disagree with the ratings this movie got.
Rotten Tomatoes stated, “While it’s almost certainly the movie event of the year for filmgoers passionate about deer urine humor, Grown Ups 2 will bore, annoy, and disgust audiences of nearly every other persuasion.” A little harsh right?
If I had read the reviews before going to see the movie, I would have changed my mind and picked another. But I’m telling you folks who haven’t seen the movie yet, to go see it. I promise it will make you laugh.
