Valentine’s Day is coming up again. For those of you who are single like I am, you are probably having mixed feelings about this time of year. You look around campus and see couples kissing and holding hands on a daily basis, but yet when Valentine’s Day comes around, it feels worse. Why should it though?
Just because you may not be in a relationship does not mean that there is something wrong with you at all. Instead, you should embrace your situation and try to make the most out of it.
If you were in a relationship, then you would have to worry about what to buy your significant other and spend money that let’s face it – most of us do not have. The benefit of Valentine’s Day is that while others are stressing out about last minute restaurant reservations, you can make the day all about pampering yourself.
If there are things that you do not usually have time to do, take today and treat yourself. Paint your nails, watch a movie you have been wanting to see, or spend a couple of hours playing video games. If none of these options sound good to you, here are some more things that you can do that could take your mind off of this holiday.
If you have friends in your group that are single like you are, then you all should go out together and do something fun. Go bowling or see a movie! Sometimes spending quality time with your close friends can be better than spending time with a boyfriend or a girlfriend.
If your group of friends are all in relationships and have plans for that day, you could go on a vacation or an adventure by yourself. Valentine’s Day is on the weekend, so if you have a car you could just drive to a new location that you have always wanted to go. There are plenty of beautiful places that are around Radford University.
Another thing that you could do on Valentine’s Day is to spend time with your family. For those of you who have homes close to campus, this option is more geared towards you. There is nothing better than having the love of your family around you on a day that is focused on love. At the end of the day, your family’s unconditional love means more than going on a date with someone that you do not know just because its Valentine’s Day.
If there is someone in your life that you have feelings for and you know they are single, then go for it! There is nothing to lose. Sometimes it is better to have tried and failed than to have never tried. After all, people who are in relationships now would not have a significant other if one of them did not put themselves out there.
Lastly, if none of these options sound good to you, make it like any other normal weekend. You could binge watch on Netflix. They are constantly adding shows and movies, so there is a good chance that there is something on there that you have not seen yet. Also, there are some Netflix exclusive shows on there, so now would be a perfect time to binge watch!
Whatever you decide to do, make sure that you have fun. This day should not just be about loving your significant other, but rather appreciating love in general. Remember, family and friends love you unconditionally, and that truly is something amazing.
