Field Hockey not enough for No.11 Stanford University
Radford University Field Hockey managed to hang with the Stanford Cardinals in a neutral site match up on Sept. 22, but eventually failed to grab the win from the more experienced No. 11 Cardinals.
RU had some strong performances by a variety of players. Junior goalkeeper Sidney Encarnacion registered 10 saves on the day. Encarnacion played the entire game and was impressive in allowing the much stronger Cardinals to only score two goals.
Freshman midfielder Jana Bayer had a nice outing as well, registering two shots on goal, but failed to get them into the back of the net.
Sophomore forward Sydney Mydral and junior back Alayna Versage each registered a shot on goal as well, but also failed to get it past the keeper. The Highlanders only attempted five shots total on the game.
The Cardinals were much more successful in recording goals. Cardinal player Lauren Beckner scored in the 18th minute and Jessica Chisholm in the 60th minute.
This season, the Highs are averaging 5.4 shots per game while their opponents are averaging 25. RU’s shot percentage is rather low as well, with a .079 on the year.
By picking up the win, Stanford improved to 6-3 on the season while the Highs dropped to 0-7.
With the NorPac season rapidly approaching, the Highs will have to pick it up to salvage their season.
RU has a short break before their next game against Davidson College at 7 p.m. on Sept. 28.
