The 2013 Addy Awards took place in Roanoke, Virginia on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Charter Hall in the Roanoke City Market Building. The Addy awards are the largest advertising competition in the world. Tickets were $65.00 per person. The event began with cocktails from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Each person in attendance had to dress in creative cocktail attire. The awards were presented at 8 p.m. that evening. There were several judges from the local, regional, state and national level in attendance.
Many Radford University students participated in the event and won awards at the event. Sandi Deitrich of Radford University won a Student Gold Addy for her poster being recognized as one the best collateral materials in the competition known as “Save Your Scissors.” Haylie Wise, also a student at RU won a Student Silver Addy for her “Cherokee Poster under the collateral material category. Katie Sickman won the award for the Student Silver Addy for the Converse Billboard. Derek Reynolds won a Student Gold Addy for his work on the campaign as a photographer and graphic designer.
