195 New Positive Cases: COVID-19 ‘Plateaued’ in Radford

On the afternoon of Tuesday, Sept. 1, Radford University updated its University COVID-19 Dashboard. The dashboard has been available since mid-August, as students started to move on and off-campus.

Of the 492 tests, 24 tests were positive, showing a 4.88 percent positivity rate that Friday. The latest data shows that 2,629 total tests have been performed by a partnership with PathGroup and Radford University Student Health Center.

PathGroup performed tests on-campus Aug. 1-14, during the move-in process. 

Since Aug. 12, the Radford University Student Health Center started testing for symptomatic students and those in close contact with said students. The Student Health Center will continue testing throughout the Fall and Spring semesters, according to a university email sent out Sept. 1.

One day event testing center became available Friday, Aug. 28, with the (VDH) Virginia Department of Health’s New River Valley District.

“Local public health officials have advised that COVID-19 has plateaued on our campus and is beginning to decline. As we have completed three weeks of classes, this information is encouraging as the campus has been working diligently to ensure compliance with existing measures, while also putting additional measures in place,” as said on the University COVID-19 Dashboard.The health district conducted a total of 492 surveillance testing for students, faculty, and staff members. 

Of the 492 tests, 24 tests were positive, showing a 4.88 percent positivity rate that Friday. 

23 students and one staff member tested positive, and no faculty members tested positive.

According to an email sent out on Wednesday, Aug. 26, the University stated, “If there is significant interest in this opportunity, the University will work with VDH to determine if additional testing can be provided on another date, in this same format.”

According to the University COVID-19 Dashboard, the overall percent positivity rate on campus is 11.14 percent and shows 195 new cases, which is up from 98 on August 25, and 11 on Aug. 18 for a total of 293 positive cases within Radford Unversity.
